You can watch free movies under the stars in Toronto this summer

Movies under the stars seem like a great way to spend the summer in Toronto, especially after being deprived of a cinema for so long.

Drive-in cinema event series Movies under the stars returns to one of Toronto’s largest parks, Downsview. The series will begin on July 1 and end on July 25, with five films in total.

They start with the movie 2020 The Croods: A New Age July 1 and will screen Forward July 6, Back to the future July 16 and Raya and the last dragon July 20.

A special screening organized by the City of Toronto and Reelworld Film Festival will close the series on July 25. The name of the film has yet to be announced.

Shows are scheduled to begin around dusk around 9 p.m. and registration will open approximately one week before each show date. Only one entry per household is authorized for a maximum of five people in the same vehicle.

Although this is a paid event, arrive early as parking spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The doors open approximately 60 minutes before dusk.

An ice cream truck will be present at the events for frozen treats at the movies. Restrooms, sinks and hand sanitizer will be available, and events will be postponed if there are heavy rains, lightning and thunderstorms forecast for the evening.
