Wavve compensates its customers for 140 free movies for network outages

Local video streaming platform Wavve has announced that it will provide 140 movies for free to compensate for network outages this year.

Wavve, which has the highest user count of any Korean OTT, encountered network issues on January 27 that lasted for over a week and prevented users from viewing much of its content. Another network outage on January 29 led to the broadcast of adult content for several seconds during the children’s film “Pororo Movie”, further infuriating users.

“Wavve will do everything possible to ensure that such an incident does not happen again. We sincerely apologize to those who were confused and upset,” the company announced on January 30.

Wavve has since removed the adult movies menu entirely and announced that it will implement a monitoring system that uses deep learning technology to block harmful content. He also provided psychological counseling to the children who suffered from the incident. In addition, a wide range of movies are available for free for a month.

Free Wavve members will be able to watch 100 children’s movies, with the first 50 available until February 21 and another 50 available from February 22 to March 7. Subscribers will be able to watch 40 other selected pay movies free of charge. movies for a month.

However, many subscribers to Wavve, a platform created by the three local terrestrial broadcasters KBS, MBC and SBS in partnership with SK Telecom, sign up to watch TV series and reality shows rather than movies.

Wavve mentioned in Tuesday’s announcement that users can contact the service center for refunds and other compensation. However, a Wavve official told the Korea Herald on Wednesday that the company is providing necessary compensations such as refunds or a free one-month subscription to those who have experienced network outages.
