Tree lighting, vacation walk, free movies scheduled at Glen Ellyn


GLEN ELLYN, IL – Glen Ellyn will kick off their seasonal festivities on November 26 with the 2021 Holiday Walking and Tree Lighting Ceremony. The holiday fun will continue throughout December with free movies for the whole family at the Glen Art Theater.

Residents will begin gathering around the Christmas tree in downtown Glen Ellyn at 5 p.m. on November 26. The holiday march begins at 6 p.m., when Santa Claus begins to walk towards the tree from the fire station at 524 Pennsylvania Ave.

At 6:30 p.m., the Glen Ellyn tree lighting will begin to signal the start of the season. After the tree is lit, visitors can check out holiday decorations and Black Friday deals in downtown stores or head to the fire station for photos with Santa from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Vacation Movies at the Glen Art Theater

Families can watch free holiday movies at the Glen Art Theater starting November 27. The holiday film program is as follows:

  • November 27: Arthur’s Christmas
  • December 4: Elf
  • December 11: Polar Express
  • December 18: The Grinch (Dr. Seuss version)

Send letters to Santa

A special letterbox will be set up at the northeast corner of Crescent Boulevard and Main Street to accept letters addressed to Santa himself. The Letters to Santa Claus mailbox will be available from November 24 to December 20. Children who drop letters in the mailbox before December 19 will receive a response from Santa that includes a signed photo, so be sure to include a return address.
