The movie “No” won’t start airing anytime soon, sorry

No, director Jordan Peele’s latest film hits US theaters on Friday. But any fans who want to watch it at home should be prepared for a bit of a wait before it’s available on a streaming service.

Last year, an unprecedented number of new theatrical films were released online the same day they hit theaters. But this year, as COVID-19 restrictions have eased and audiences have returned to cinemas, the practice has all but died out – especially for summer films with blockbuster ambitions. Nearly every movie now has at least a month and a half in theaters exclusively, but those delays are ubiquitous.

Which service will broadcast Nope first?

Nope should stream on Peacock first. Peele’s production company Monkeypaw has a deal with Universal Pictures, and the film is being distributed in the United States by Universal. Peacock and Universal are owned by the same parent company, and Peacock’s arrangement must be the premier place to stream films distributed by Universal.

What is the streaming release date of Nope?

Peacock and Universal have yet to confirm a streaming release date for the movie Nope, but here’s what you need to know:

  • Generally, the film should start streaming on Peacock between September 5 and November 18. Peacock can start showing theatrically movies like Nope 45 days after theatrical release, but no later than 120 days. So if Nope were to hit Peacock exactly after that 45 day period, it would become available to stream there on September 5th. If the film waits until its 120th day of release, it will be on Peacock on November 18.
  • Universal’s other big summer movies unfortunately don’t provide much precedent: Jurassic World Dominion and Minions: The Rise of Gru are the two biggest blockbusters the company has released this summer (and so far this year). , but none have confirmed streaming release dates on Peacock yet. Jurassic World Dominion, which was released on June 10, is about to cross its 45th day in theaters on Sunday, with no word on an air date. Rise of Gru hit is still in its first month of release, and its air date is also a mystery.
  • Streaming release dates are unpredictable! Peele’s production company Monkeypaw’s next film (called Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul) will premiere on Peacock the same day it hits theaters, September 2. The one-day streaming release isn’t in the cards. But wildcards like Honk for Jesus don’t help predictability.

Nope will it be free to stream on Peacock?

Highly unlikely. Peacock regularly puts new films like Nope behind its paywall.

If you don’t already have a premium subscription to Peacock, you’ll need to sign up for a premium tier of $5 per month or $10 per month if you want to watch the movie or any of Peacock’s other paid programs ( As YellowstonePremier League matches, WWE, The Office and other popular stuff.)

The peacock has some offers it could reduce – or even eliminate – your cost of being a premium member.

But the movie should be available to paid premium subscribers of Peacock without any Additional costs. So if you’re already a premium subscriber to Peacock, you’ll be able to stream it like anything else on the service.
