The batman, the reboot by Warner Bros. Pictures of the venerable superhero franchise, starring Robert Pattinson as the new caped crusader, is scheduled to begin airing on HBO Max on April 19, 2022. The film, directed by Matt Reeves, hits theaters on March 4.

The release dates were reiterated by WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar in a recent Vox podcast Recode – the Executive’s second Q&A in 2021.

With WarnerMedia’s controversial 2021 date-and-date theatrical distribution strategy / Max in its final days, the media company is looking to implement an industry-standard, exclusive 45-day theatrical window for its box-list. office in 2022. This includes pending DCs Black adam, the flash, and separately, Elvis, among others.

“I feel really good knowing that [those movies], and a host of other films, will literally appear on Day 46 on Max in a variety of territories around the world, ”Kilar said. “It’s a very, very big change that I don’t think people like, and I feel really good about it.”

This is because HBO traditionally does not have access to theatrical titles for at least eight months after their box office release.

Kilar, who is likely to leave his post at WarnerMedia after its sale to Discovery gets regulatory approval sometime next year, said the simultaneous exit strategy has helped increase Max subscriptions – while sometimes undermining the box office potential of an unsuccessful film. Warner’s last weekend box office winner was Godzilla vs. Kong March 31.

“Think about when the films [used to show] on HBO, ”Kilar said. “This is a huge change from the situation in 2018, 2017, 2016.”
