State Theater NJ Announces New Broadway Season, Free Movie Series

The 2022-23 Broadway Series at New Jersey State Theater will feature fan favorites, Tony Award-winning shows — even some productions appearing in New Brunswick theater for the very first time.

The four-show series at the newly renovated New Brunswick Theater begins with “Tootsie” from November 4-6. The recent Lincoln Center revival of “My Fair Lady” is scheduled for January 27-29, 2023, with the musical “Legally Blonde” April 28-30, and a new production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” June 9-11. .

Other shows include international percussion sensation “STOMP” on December 2-3, 2022, and a musical tribute to Aretha Franklin, “RESPECT” on March 11-12, 2023.

"Jesus Christ Superstar" will play at the State Theater in New Brunswick.

Broadway Series tickets, which offer a 20% discount on the price of a single ticket, include the option to renew your chosen seats each year, a Broadway season cut that can be used at all shows in-series for half-price drinks, in-series ticket exchanges, and a friend discount that adds single tickets (once on sale) at a 15% savings.

Free summer movies

The free summer movie series is also back at the State Theater.

Coming in the series are:

  • “Raya and the Last Dragon”: 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on July 19
  • “Luca”: 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on July 26
  • “Space Jam: A New Legacy”: 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on August 2
  • “Encanto”: 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on August 9
  • “In the Heights”: 7 p.m. on August 16

Films in digital surround sound will be projected onto a 46-foot screen using the theater’s HD digital cinema projection system.
