The Nevada Housing Authority and On My Own, Inc. EnVision Center, in partnership with community sponsors, will bring Building Strong Families 2022 events to the community in the form of free movie screenings at the Century 6 Cinema.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) originally created “Father’s Day” in 2011 to raise awareness of the grim statistics faced by children living in fatherless homes. Since then, HUD has focused on both parents to aim to connect men and women to resources that will help improve outcomes and unify the family. This laid the foundation for the “Building Strong Families” initiative.

The HUD Strong Families initiative consists of the following four pillars:

• Health and Well-being: Nutrition, Fitness and Prevention; mental health and addiction; Social determinants of health (environment, violence, etc.)

• Academic advancement: FAFSA and post-secondary enrollment; STEAM and digital inclusion; Reading and distribution of books.

• Economic empowerment: Vocational training; Financial Literacy; Support services.

• Character and leadership

The “Building Strong Families” free movie event will continue throughout the summer and is open to families, friends and people of all ages. Each movie will be at 9:45 a.m., with doors opening at 9:15 a.m. Here are the scheduled dates for each film:
