Is the new Shyamalan horror movie streaming?

0

If there’s one thing we all know M. Night Shyamalan movies now is that you want to see them before all the best twists are revealed. And his latest, the inspiring body horror Old, looks like it’s about as full of mystery, twists and surprises as it ever was. According to the official, rather ambiguous synopsis, the new thriller follows “a family on a tropical vacation who discovers that the secluded beach where they relax for a few hours somehow causes them to age quickly… shrinking their entire lives into just one day.”

The film stars a heck of a set as a rapidly aging family and their nightmarish beach mates, including Gael Garcia Bernal (Amazon Mozart in the Jungle), Vicky Krieps (phantom thread), Rufus Sewell (The man of the high castle), Ken leung (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Jupiter’s ancestry), Lee Abbey (Lovecraft Country), Aaron Peter (Krypton), Alex wolff (Hereditary), Embeth davidtz (The girl with the dragon tattoo), Eliza scanlen (Little woman), Emun Elliott (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens), Kathleen chalfant (the case) and Thomasin McKenzie (Bunny Jojo).

Is the old streaming online?

No. Universal Pictures released Old exclusively in theaters on July 23, 2021. It is currently not available to stream.

Shyamalan’s original thriller beat stiff franchise competition in Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins and Space Jam: a new legacy to become the # 1 film at the box office, delivering the first real box office shake up since theaters reopened in 2021 with a $ 16.8 million opening weekend win.

However, pretty much every major theatrical release ends up streaming these days, so can you expect to see Old on Netflix? Probably not. What about HBO Max? Most likely.

Until recently, Universal had a long-standing deal with HBO, last renewed in 2013 to run until 2022. That means, like Universal’s recent horror releases Weird and The invisible Man, Old Will likely make its way to HBO and HBO Max after the video’s theatrical and home release. Usually, they arrive around 9 months after the theatrical debut.

However, this will no longer be the case in the future. With the launch of Comcast Peacock’s streaming service in 2020, Universal Pictures has made progress in ensuring that all of its theatrical releases make their streaming debut on their parent company’s streaming service. In July 2021, Universal Pictures signed two major streaming deals. The former pointed out that all Universal Pictures theatrical releases will first air on Peacock for a four-month window, no later than four months after their theatrical premiere. Universal also signed a multi-year agreement with Amazon to stream the studio’s films to its Prime Video and IMDb TVs.

Starting in 2022, Universal Pictures films will air on Peacock for four months before heading to Amazon for 10 months and then returning to Peacock for a second four-month period.

Not now but soon. How long ? Probably a few more weeks.

In 2020, Universal Pictures signed landmark agreements with movie chains AMC and Cinemark that shortened the window of film exclusivity. The AMC deal set a new 17-day window, essentially three weekends, before Universal could release its theatrical releases on Digital, and the Cinemark deal added an interesting caveat about performance at the box office: Movies that open above $ 50 million will have at least 31 days of cinema exclusivity.

This $ 16.8 million opening weekend was an impressive box office surprise, but well below the $ 50 opening threshold. Universal can keep Old in theaters only at their discretion, but the tame opening box office suggests they’ll likely make the movie available on PVOD sooner rather than later, as they recently did with The purge forever, which arrived on Digital just 21 days after its theatrical release.

Does Old still play in theaters?

Yes, Old is currently available to watch in theaters only.

The film opened in 3,355 theaters nationwide on July 23, and although that number will likely decline as new theatrical debuts like The green knight and Jungle cruise compete for available times, Old should still be fairly easy to find in theaters. With the COVID Delta Variant sparking cases surging nationwide, be sure to check your state’s most recent safety guidelines before purchasing your tickets.
