Greetings from Great Bend Public Library! We’ve partnered with the $428 School District Reading Initiative to bring special Charlotte web events to families this weekend. Friday night at 6:30 p.m. enjoy a free movie, popcorn and treats with us. Help bring the classic animated movie to life with props and have fun interacting with the movie in a whole new way! So join us Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for a morning movie as we watch the live adaptation of Charlotte’s Web. Both films will provide a great opportunity for families to discuss the similarities and differences between the film and the book.
Monday we have our next Book Buddies meeting. Children will have the opportunity to play games, eat snacks and pair up with a buddy to read aloud. Having regular opportunities to practice familiar reading with one-on-one assistance is a great way for children to gain confidence in reading and listening to stories. Reading aloud helps with reading fluency, phrasing and expression. Plus, having an older child show them how amazing and cool reading can be is great motivation for kids to get into reading and enjoy it as a hobby. You can join us for Book Buddies every Monday in February at 6 p.m.
Also on Monday, our Teen Café. From 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., teens can grab coffee and play festive games for a chance to get their hands on Valentine’s Day treats. The next day at 4 p.m., teens can join Miss Haylee and Miss Shanna for Teen Tuesday. Hang out and have fun with other teens doing crafts, games and more! We’re asking teens to RSVP for this event, which can be done using the code @gbteentues in the Remind app, at reminder.com, or by texting 81010 (standard messaging rates apply). This way we can be sure to have enough supplies for everyone who wants to come.
Later at 7 p.m. Tuesday, our Open Book Club meets to discuss The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. It’s not too late to pick up a copy from reception or view it digitally on Hoopa and Libby to read before you meet us!
This coming Friday, February 18, we have two exciting events for children in grades 3-5. First at 10:30 am we have a spa session for nails and lip gloss. Children can join us for a morning of pampering as we learn to take care of our hands and nails. During our spa treatment we will do a hand mask, bath and massage. After that we will learn different ways to decorate our nails and make our own lip gloss to take home. In the afternoon from 2 p.m., put on your creative thinking caps and helmets for Engineer IT! Using engineering kits and various building materials, come plan and build playgrounds, treehouses, roller coasters and state park attractions. Registration for both events is required, so be sure to register before spots sell out. You can register for both of these events on our website, greatbendpl.info, under the ‘Kids Activities’ page.
