ABS-CBN Corporation is partnering with Cathay CineHome, the streaming video rental service of leading cinema operator Cathay Cineplexes in Singapore, to rent Filipino movies.
In a statement, the leading Filipino media and entertainment company said its subsidiary ABS-CBN Australia Pty. Ltd. enters the partnership to give viewers the flexibility to choose how and when they want to watch their favorite movies.
Filipino box office hits are available for hire for as low as SGD $ 4.98 on Cathay Cinehome (www.cathaycinehome.com).
All films will be shown in original Tagalog with English subtitles. More box office hits and favorite movies will be added regularly.
Cathay Cinehome is the digital extension of Cathay Cineplexes, a video-on-demand (VOD) streaming service for movies in Singapore.
The streaming service was launched in 2020 to serve as a complementary platform to the film exploitation business, creating additional viewing opportunities for moviegoers.
Through this collaboration with ABS-CBN Australia Pty. Ltd., Cathay Cinehome aims to bring Filipino entertainment and movie lovers a channel with no membership fees or monthly subscriptions.
The platform’s pay-per-view rental model gives viewers the choice of watching their favorite shows on smart TVs, computers, tablets and mobile devices.
“Cathay Cinehome is honored to partner with ABS-CBN Australia to bring more Filipino films to moviegoers in Singapore,” said Chang Long Jong, CEO of mm2 Asia Group.
He added that “Filipino films are among the most creative and commercially successful films made in the region and it is great that more people can enjoy these films through the streaming service. “ABS-CBN is focused on reinventing how we can deliver our content to Filipinos and non-Filipinos in South East Asia,” said Maribel Hernaez, ABS-CBN Australia’s Managing Director for the Asia Pacific.
She noted that “the pandemic has changed our lifestyles tremendously and, for our audiences, that includes not being able to enjoy movies in theaters.”
“True to ABS-CBN’s commitment to bringing information and entertainment to the world, we are proud to partner with Cathay Cinehome with whom we share the vision to reach so many homes in Singapore,” said Hernaez.
